Remote Analysis and DiagnosisCenter—Present and Development History

  The WHEC (Westing House Electric Company) found a PDS (Plant Data System) in 1984. The system is composed of a DOC (Diagnosis and OperationCenter) in Orland and PDCs (PlantDataCenter) in individual power plants. The DOC can only complete some simple analysis because of the limitations of science and technique level at that time and some objective conditions.

Some universities, enterprises, institutes, electric science institutes in China made valuable efforts in recent years, e.g. Shandong electric science institute and Zhejiang electric science institute have established two remote vibration analysis centers.

ENVADA established first actual remote vibration analysis and diagnosis center in China at Huabei electric science institute in July 1999. The center connects with TDM systems of vibration monitoring and fault diagnosis of many large-scale power plants and gives full dispensable play to the superiority of predictive maintenance of the power plant and has prevented the occurrences of many accidents.

The establishment of remote vibration analysis center has become an essential trend along with the development of unit in large-scale and automatization as well as the rapid development of computer technique and network communication technique to meet the higher demand for the safety and economy of operation of unit.

Aim and Meaning—Establishing a Remote Analysis and DiagnosisCenter

For mastering the operation state of unit, preventing and decreasing the occurrences of accident, making best of unit’s advantage, managing the unit scientifically and predicting the best time of maintenance, the operation state of unit must be monitored in real time so as to find the sign of accident and to ensure the unit working in a not only health but also high efficient state. The aim and meaning establishing a remote analysis and diagnosis center are as follows:

1.Because a long period and mush money are needed for accumulating experience and the experienced experts are mainly stayed in the electric science institute and lack in the site, only the data not an expert needs to be moved if there is a remote vibration analysis center. The expert need not go to the site when there is an accident of unit so that the problem lack of the experienced expert in the site can be solved.

2.The site operator short of experience often feels quite helpless when facing a great deal of information changing rapidly. Remote Analysis and DiagnosisCenter Configuration

A remote analysis and diagnosis center is composed of hardware and software. The hardware includes data server, computer, network communication devices, printer and other peripheral devices. The software includes database management software, network communication software and network management software operating in the data server and state monitoring software, signal analysis software, fault diagnosis software, etc operating in the computer.

The network communication between the remote vibration analysis center and individual power plants adopts a mode of Client/Server. The database is placed in the data server (or the acquisition station if there is no special data server). The data server would complete the works of data storage and data management. The client computer, such as the upper computer (engineer working station) or the remote diagnosis center, would complete the works of signal analysis and fault diagnosis. The data transformation between the client computer and the data server would be completed through the TCP/IP communication protocol and Winsock programming. When the client needs to access the database at the back end, it gives an application to the back end and the service program would finish the operation and the result of operation would be returned to the client’s computer. The communication between the remote vibration analysis center and individual power plants can make use of common telephone net, electric microwave network, WAN (Wide Area Network), etc. so that the remote vibration analysis center (that is a client computer in which the EN8000 system software can executed) may receive the data sent by the vibration monitoring systems (the data acquisition box of EN8000 system can be used as a server) of individual power plants and may sort and store the data through the database management software. The communication data server can also manage the data communication between the center and the client’s data server as well as among client’s computers in the center and can ensure their effective transformation.

The Client/Server mode is adopted between the communication data server and individual computers in the remote analysis and diagnosis center so as to use various analysis methods to analyze the data and to complete many functions of EN8000 system, e.g. state monitoring, signal analysis, fault diagnosis and online upgrading software, etc.

Since the transmission rate of dial telephone network is slow, the client had better back up the data needed firstly when some data of start/stop, the data in some period or the data of some fault need to be repeatedly analyzed and then individual analysis modules can use the backup data so that the data needed may be transmitted only once and much time can be saved.

The remote state monitoring and diagnosis center of ENVADA Beijing is able to catalog and manage the data come from the client of EN8000 system, to understand the state of device, to form a state report of device at regular fixed time (month, year) and to provide careful service for the client timely by the experienced expert in the center.

Because the EN8000B system has a Web casting function, the client can directly access a WEB server (or a working station if there is no server) through an IE browser by means of a computer which is able to log in the network so as to get the data and analysis graph or spectrum needed.

Remote Analysis and DiagnosisCenter WEB Server Configuration

The remote analysis and diagnosis center is an effective tool that the expert processes the problem of site and a Web server is an effective tool that ordinary people understand the state of device in the site. The expert in the center, who has special knowledge and plenty of site experience for processing the problem of site, may select the data needed and may determine which of signal analysis methods should be applied to the problem according to the requirement solving the problem.   The Web server is able to send the real-time data on time, the data of experiment and the data of fault in time, the data, the graph, the result of diagnosis and so on to the remote center, to response the application from a remote client. The client who is able to log in the network can browse the data and graph.

The Web server adopts the Windows 2000 Server Operating System and SQL Server 2000 standard database. The Web technique has been integrated in the Windows 2000 Server Operating System so it has powerful network management ability and high reliability. The SQL Server 2000 database has high reliability and good in extension so the real-time database, history database, buffer database and so on can be automatically formed and is able to manage the type and capacity of database.

1. How to use a WEB server

After a computer has been logged in the network, choosing the address of main page of the Web server in the EN8000B system and keying in a user’s name and a password so as to log in the Web main page of EN8000B system. State monitoring of device

The state of device is displayed through main monitoring graph, bar graph, list, digit, curve, etc. shown in the following figure.
